Magnificent Mediocrity of the Midwest (Installation)

EPSON Inkjet Prints, Pine Wood, Insulation Foam, Interior and Trimming Paint

As my undergraduate education neared its end and I started to form a thesis body, no work felt more important to realize fully than this series of images that I had been working on for most all of my collegiate career. Rather than install in traditional frames or semi structured salon style with clean white walls, I wanted to utilize the space given for this show as a vessel to directly communicate to the viewers. Working in tangent with the image content, the structural installation expands on the conversation that is started within the themes behind these photos. Pulling inspiration from the Italianate architecture that is found so prevalently through historic and memorable parts of Cincinnati, I make a direct call to sense of place, further leaning into the identifiable components of the installation to then have them act as a window into my personal perspective of this lived experience in Midwest Americana.
